Avoiding disconnection
We want to work with you to avoid shutting off your energy service. If you are behind on your bill payments and have received a disconnect notice, please contact us immediately at 800-227-1376 to set up a payment arrangement.
- What is a disconnect notice?
-
If you miss a monthly payment for your energy service, CenterPoint Energy will send you a "disconnect notice" in the mail. To avoid being disconnected, make the necessary payment within 14 days. If you know you cannot make your payment before disconnection is scheduled to occur, contact us immediately to learn if you qualify for assistance or payment arrangement options.
- What happens if I get disconnected for non-payment?
-
If you are disconnected for non-payment, we will read your meter(s) within three days and send you a final bill. You are responsible for all energy used while your service is connected.
- How do I get my service turned back on after being disconnected?
-
To have CenterPoint Energy service reconnected, you must pay all past-due charges, a reconnect fee, which varies by state and utility service, and a security deposit. Contact us at 800-227-1376 for a quote of the amount you will need to pay in order to re-establish your CenterPoint Energy service. In some instances, assistance opportunities are available to help with reconnection fees.
